KANE CHASING ANOTHER LISMORE VICTORY
BY DENNIS NEWLYN
AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION DARREN KANE hopes to emulate some of his previous successes at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway when he contests the Trevan Ford Super Sedan Rumble at the venue this Saturday night, February 17.
Kane is a three times national titleholder in Super Sedan competition and one of those victories occurred at Lismore Showground during the 2008-09 season.
“I’ve enjoyed significant success at Lismore over the years, none better than the win in the Australian Championship, that was really a special night,” Kane said.
Darren said the tight confines of the Lismore bull-ring really makes it a driver’s track.
“The shape of the circuit really means you have to be on your game, but at least when the track is well-prepared, there is a low and a high line which makes for some spectacular racing and overtaking.”
Lismore promoter David Lander says Kane has been one of the top Super Sedan drivers on the national scene for many years.
“He has been at the elite National Championship level for well over a dozen years, typified by the fact that his first Australian title win was in the 2003-2004 season at South Australia’s Murray Bridge Speedway.”
In addition to Lismore and Murray Bridge, his other Australian Super Sedan Championship success came during the 2016-17 season at the Western Australian Attwell Park Speedway in Albany. He is also a five time winner of the National Super Sedan Series.
Darren these days occupies double duty, dividing his time between Super Sedans and the other major sedan division on the national scene, Late Models.
Kane is a fully fledged professional speedway driver through his involvement with the Ian Boettcher Racing Team in Ipswich, Queensland, which turns out superbly prepared cars for both divisions.
He comes to Lismore fresh from his success in the Australian Late Model Sedan Championship at South Australia’s Murray Bridge Speedway earlier this month. This was the second Late Model national title he won after his inaugural victory at Queensland’s Kingaroy Speedway in the 2014-15 season.
The Super Sedans will be supported by a number of other racing categories. Gates open at 3PM and racing commences at 6.
