THE curtain goes up on another season of action at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway this Saturday night, November 4.

Highlight of the programme will be the running of the annual V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor’s Cup.

For the past ten years the venue has been promoted by former Parramatta City Raceway operator David Lander.

Sixteen race nights are scheduled between November and next May with some important events to be decided.

“We have organised a very impressive season featuring a number of main events for many of our major categories,” Lander said this week.

“All of our support categories will be not be left out with regular appearances throughout the season.

Two of the highly anticipated races – among many scheduled – are the New South Wales V8 Dirt Modified Championship (January 26) and also the annual 100-lap Australian Grand Prix for Wingless Sprintcars (January 26 and 27). Both these events will highlight a massive Australia Day super show.

The Mr Modified series also will be held with the first round set as part of the Boxing Day Spectacular, while the second and final round is scheduled for January 6.

Production Sedans will contest their Summer Sizzler on January 20, while the Super Sedan Rumble goes under the flag on February 17.

The Diamond Air Speedcar Super Series will be held on March 3, while the fabulous 410 Sprintcars haul into Lismore on April 1 for the final round of their Easter Trail Championship.

Meanwhile race officials are very happy with the entry list for Saturday night’s V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor’s Cup.

Organisers have received upward of 30 cars for the annual season opening trophy race. Many of the drivers have put the off season to good use and have updated their equipment for the long season ahead.

All of the popular imported American company chassis brands will be represented among a host of locally produced high standard V8 Dirt Modifieds featuring the latest race technology.

Former Lord Mayor’s Cup winner Andrew Pezzutti has entered and is hoping for a first up victory to get his season off to a perfect start.

“The competition will be tough, but I am quietly confident our car can get the job done,” Pezzutti said.
