NSW TITLE ATTRACTS DRIVERS FROM AROUND THE STATE
BY DENNIS NEWLYN THIS Saturday night’s New South Wales Junior Sedan Championship at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway has attracted drivers from throughout the state. In addition to local representation, competitors are travelling from Gilgandra, Narrabri and Cullen Bullen to participate in the championship. It is a very impressive entry list and race officials are confident a 20-car field will take to the track for the state title final after a series of heats. It is a big night of family entertainment at the Lismore Showground Speedway venue this weekend with the celebrated appearance of the Jet Car. If ever a fuel run was done on this ground pounding machine, the returning figures would be startling. Try 200 litres of Jet-A1 fuel consumed in approximately five minutes. Watching out for the low fuel price cycle takes on a whole new meaning for Jet Car owner David Nicotra. “It certainly burns up the fuel at a rapid rate,” David remarked in what rates the under-statement of the century! Spectators can expect to see the Jet Car go through an impressive repertoire of stunts. This car can throw out up to 40 meters of flame to add to the incredible spectacle that will leave race fans gasping. Meanwhile local Junior Sedan drivers certainly have the home ground advantage in the battle for state honours. Matthew Weir, Connor Reeves, Ryley Smith, who won the Junior Sedan Grafton Cup recently, and Josh Boyd are all definite chances of victory among a number of contenders. These youngsters are the budding stars of tomorrow as the Junior Sedan programme in Australian speedway is designed to develop new and future talent. “This is one of the most important categories of Australian speedway because this is where the stars of tomorrow potentially come from,” promoter David Lander said. “The drivers learn what responsibility is all about when it comes to controlling and racing a car in the spirit of competition. The speedway provides ample opportunities for young people to race in our sport through this well organised and controlled category.” The V8 Dirt Modified Rumble main event also will be featured while there will also be racing for Wingless Sprintcars, Street Stocks, Production Sedans and National Four Cylinder Sedans. Gates open at 3PM and racing commences at 6.
