RACE FANS SET FOR BIG LISMORE SPEEDWAY SEASON’
BY DENNIS NEWLYN
SPECTATORS will be the big winners just by attending Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway this season, while the venue also will reach an historical milestone in 2019.
Promoter David Lander announced details during the 2017-18 season launch yesterday (Thursday, November 2) at the Lismore District Workers’ Club.
Another big season of racing commences Saturday night (November 4) and any race fan who buys a programme has the chance to win the top prize of a three night stay at the five-star Peppers Soul Resort on the Gold Coast at the end of the season.
“To enter just fill out the coupon in the programme and place it in either of the two entry boxes around the ground that night,” Lander told the gathering.
“There will be four names drawn, two from each box per night, and that automatically gives the recipients a family pass to our next meeting.
“The four winning entries at each meeting then go into a third box which will be drawn on the final night of the season with a first, second and third prize.”
Second prize is a $600 entry voucher to Gold Coast theme parks and the third name drawn wins a season pass to Lismore Speedway for the 2018-19 season.
“We have some incredibly loyal speedway supporters in Lismore,” Lander further explained, “and this is a way to acknowledge their much appreciated patronage.
Castrol Edge Lismore Showground will soon reach its 50th year of operation as a speedway venue after opening as a race track in 1969. A year after this 2017-18 season – the 2018/19 term – the circuit will record 50 consecutive seasons of speedway in Lismore.
The long time motor sports tenant on the Showground site has seen a number of different operators in the promoter’s chair and Lander has been there for the past ten years as one of the longest serving lease holders conducting speedway.
“Though still a little time off, we are planning to do a very special publication to honour the track’s 50 years.”
He also said during the launch some of his major race car categories will be featured in a 50-lap Golden Jubilee main event during the 2018-19 season.
Meanwhile, the immediate attention concentrates on this Saturday night when the annual running of the blue ribbon V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor’s Cup will highlight the 17/18 season opener.
An impressive entry list has been received by organisers.
The Wingless Sprints this season also will race for honours in the Lismore District Worker’s Club-sponsored Driver to America series. This 2017-18 season comprises 16 nights of racing between November and May, next year.
