STATE TITLE TO BE DECIDED THIS WEEKEND (APRIL 22) AT CASTROL EDGE LISMORE SPEEDWAY
BY DENNIS NEWLYN
DRIVERS from Queensland and New South Wales will contest the Four Cylinder Sedan state title, while there is little in points in the Wingless Sprintcar Driver to Ameria series entering this Saturday night’s crucial round at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway.
Both titles will be exiting contests with impressive entry lists received for the respective categories.
Lismore’s Trent Dhu is the defending New South Wales Four Cylinder Sedan Champion as he chases the title hat-trick and his fourth overall in his career.
The local contingent will ensure it won’t be easy for Dhu who won the 2016 crown at the Cullen Bullen Speedway near Lithgow.
Brock Armstrong, along the drivers from the Lismore Automobile Club, Matthew Claydon, Gerry Flood, Matthew Layton, Garry Flood, Luke Watt, Tim Tonkins and Matthew Clayton are strong contenders.
“The New South Wales Four Cylinder Sedan Championship on paper looks set to be keenly contested,” promoter David Lander said yesterday.
“There are some strong runners who are very competitive at the Lismore circuit that have entered, so there are any number of chances.”
Drivers from Gympie and Sydney also have nominated for the championship.
Dhu, driving a very quick Ford Telstar, has shown good recent form that clearly suggest he is the man to beat following an impressive main event win at the Grafton Speedway Good Friday night.
Meanwhile, David Eggins is the new leader in the Lismore District Workers’ Club – Queensland Speedway Spares sponsored Wingless Sprintcar Driver to America series. Eggins has established 35-point over former front runner Kevin Willis (530 points),while Mick Santin (485) and Trent Martin (450) round out the top four.
The air tickets to America are set to be fought out between this quartet with only a few rounds remaining.
Eggins has been a model of consistency throughout the 2016-17 season and has been a regular in the main event top three finishing positions.
The NSW Four Cylinder Sedan Championship and Wingless Sprints will be supported with events for Street Stocks, Junior and Production Sedans.
Gates open at 3PM and racing commences at 6.
