SUNDAY, JUNE 11 END-OF-SEASON FIXTURE WASHED OUT
BY DENNIS NEWLYN
HEAVY rain Friday and Saturday has forced the cancellation of the Sunday, June 11 fixture at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway.
A Saturday mid-morning track inspection deemed the surface unsuitable for racing and promoter David Lander was left with no alternative but to abandon the end-of-season fixture.
It is not only the track that has suffered due to the rain, but the spectator and pit areas are also water-logged.
It has been a very tough season for Lander with eight washouts at his Lismore track, while his other venue, Grafton Speedway, also lost three meetings due to the inclement weather. Virtually half of his season has been wiped out due to rain.
The Queen’s Birthday long weekend Lismore fixture represents a sad end to the 2016-17 season, however Lander announced this weekend next season will commence at Lismore on November 4 with the running of the annual V8 Dirt Modified Lord Mayor’s Cup.
He is well into the planning for the 2017-18 season with 16 race nights scheduled.
He also recently announced dates for the Grafton Speedway which will host seven race nights between late September and March, 2018.
