SPECIAL attention has been paid to track preparation this week in the countdown to Sunday afternoon’s (June 4) fixture at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway.
Curator Tony Powell has worked long and hard on the racing surface in recent days to produce a track that will provide ideal conditions for daylight racing.
Speedway racing in sunlight tends to lead to slick track conditions when most of the top layer of dirt/clay compound is uncovered and a much harder surface base is left to race on as tyre wear can sometimes also become a factor.
However, the Lismore circuit has one of the best track surfaces for a speedway venue in Australia and has proven in the past it can stand up to racing under varied conditions on the day.
Powell has prepared the Lismore track for many years and is highly experienced in his field.
Sunday’s race meeting will feature plenty of laps put down on the circuit with seven major divisions featured.
The headline categories are V8 Dirt Modifieds and Wingless Sprintcars.
Both divisions have a strong local following and all of the Lismore regulars have entered.
Racing also will be featured for Junior Sedans, Production Sedans, Street Stocks, Four Cylinder Sedans and AMCA Nationals.
It has been another long and successful season at the Lismore Showground venue under the promotion of David Lander.
Lander already is well into the planning stages for next season and yesterday released calendar dates for the 16-race nights’ 2017-18 term.
“I am looking at running some major attractions again next season that have in the past been well received by local speedway fans. I will again feature all of our regular categories and some major headline divisions that will bring some big name competitors to the Lismore Showground next season,” Lander said.
The 2017-18 summer season will commence on November 4 with the running of the annual V8 Dirt Modifieds’ Lord Mayor’s Cup. Other dates confirmed are: November 18; December 2, 26; January 6, 13, 19 20, 26, 27; February 17; March 3, 17; April 1, 14, 28; May 12 (rain date); June 10 (rain date).
Meanwhile after the Sunday, June 4 show, the only other meeting for this current season still to be conducted will be the following week (Sunday, June 11), when the Queen’s Birthday Speedway Spectacular is held.
Racing this Sunday commences at 1PM and gates will open at 11AM.
